Reincarnation

There are many theories about what happens to the energy inside of us when we die. The one I talk about the most is ghosts. However, another one I find very interesting is the concept of reincarnation.

Reincarnation is the Buddhist belief that when you suffer a biological death, your energy is immediately transferred into another body. The new body could be human, animal, or spiritual depending on how you lived your life.

Normally, I would have never given this theory a second thought, but when I read about it, it triggered a memory. When I was twelve years old, my grandmother passed away very suddenly. To ease the pain of my loss, my parents decided to buy me a puppy. It was the cutest thing I’d ever seen but there was something about it that gave me the shivers.

Whenever I shared meals with my grandmother, she wouldn’t let me start to eat until I washed my hands. When I sat down for dinner the first day that my new puppy was in the house, I – uhh – forgot to wash my hands. Well that dog would not stop barking when I sat at the table. I looked at it, questioningly, and it walked over to the sink where it started barking again. I walked over and washed my hands. The dog stopped barking and let me eat my meal in peace.

So let me ask you this: am I crazy to think that my grandmother’s soul found itself in my new dog after she died?
