Dear Beloved

If you think you’ve never gotten a “Nigerian” scam email, check your spam box.  You’ll find one.

They aren’t necessarily from Nigeria, although some are.  These emails tell you a story and ask you to help get millions of dollars out of a country.  The real owners of the money are supposedly dead and because of that, the money is going to end up in the hands of someone evil.  But if you help out, the money can be used for something good and best of all, you’ll get several million for doing very little.

Of course, that’s not what happens.  The thieves tell you an elaborate story in order to get you to give them personal information — like your bank account numbers.  And then they take money out of your account.

Or they say they need your money to pay bribes or tax collectors.

In the end, they end up with your money and not the other way around.
