Because I am A Girl Working In Haiti
Because I Am A Girl does important work in Haiti.
Because I Am A Girl sometimes gives certain countries special attention, because they are in particular need of aid. An example of this is Haiti, one of the poorest in the world.
Unlike Canada, Haiti has had a troubled history. This country has seen a great deal of war and bad leadership, which affects its people to this day. When nations have bad governments that do not treat their people fairly, we see things like poverty, violence and crime. Haiti is a good example of a place that never had any peace or enough money.
When a country is poor it can’t deal with big challenges, like natural disasters. In 2010, a massive earthquake killed thousands of people and left thousands more without food, money or shelter. This caused many Haitians to get sick from a lack of proper nutrition, health care or clean water.
Because I Am A Girl pays close attention to Haiti, as any nation that poor can be an especially tough place girls. Remember, girls in any developing country are more likely to be poor and unhealthy than boys. As an initiative of Plan Canada, Because I Am A Girl works with other aid groups to help Haiti’s girls. Other aid groups like having the help, because helping girls benefits everyone.
Haiti is an example of a nation that really needs help from people all over the world. Because I Am A Girl is one of many aid organizations that wants to make Haiti a better place to live.
