0Lacie, the Canine Star of The Maltese Puppy
We sat with Mary Moody on the day of the premiere screening of Ruby Skye P.I. to talk about her dog, Lacie, the star of Maltese Puppy.
How would you introduce Lacie to us?
She’s white, she’s five and half years old and she’s a Bichon Frise. She’s inquisitive and clever. She loves children. She has a sweet disposition; there’s something calming about her.
What made you get a Bichon Frise?
We’d lost our previous Bichon Frise, Savannah, and it was really heartbreaking. I had chosen that breed because it is a sturdy and hypoallergenic.
What are some of Lacie’s favourite things to do?
We do a lot of retrieving. She loves fetching her ball so much that we had to teach her the command “last ball.” Whenever people come to visit, she brings them her ball and game’s on.
How did she like shooting the Maltese Puppy?
The crew really made it painless for us — they were very understanding and patient. They loved Lacie and she liked that a lot. I would say she had a blast.
Does she like the camera?
I don’t know why, but Lacie loves the camera. Other dogs tend to get nervous or scared, but she wasn’t.
What other shows has Lacie done so far?
She has toured with the Ultimutts Stunt Dog Show. She does Double Dog Barrel Rolling: she and a Boston terrier would get on a barrel and roll it. When we performed at Woofstok Rick Mercer did a stunt with us. He had Lacie skipping and dancing for one of the promos of his show. Recently we took part in a Bark in The Park — a fundraiser for the Humane Society, where we did a few tricks on stage.
